Dates (年, 月, 日/号)

Structure Year + 年 · Number + 月 · Number + 日/号

Chinese dates go from BIGGEST to smallest: year (年), month (月) and day (日, spoken 号). 2026年5月1号 = "May 1st, 2026". You don’t need 是 to give a date: 今天五月一号. Years are read digit by digit: 一九九八年 ("nineteen ninety-eight").

Examples

今jīn天tiān几jǐ月yuè几jǐ号hào？
What’s today’s date?
今jīn天tiān五wǔ月yuè一yī号hào。
Today is May 1st.
我wǒ一yī九jiǔ九jiǔ八bā年nián出chū生shēng。
I was born in 1998.
