Structure Subject + 给 + person + Verb

给 (gěi) introduces who the action is aimed at ("to / for someone") and goes BEFORE the verb: 我给你打电话 = "I’ll call you". It also works as the verb "to give": 给我一杯水 = "give me a glass of water". The key is the order: 给 + person + action.

Examples

我wǒ给gěi你nǐ打dǎ电diàn话huà。
I’ll call you.
请qǐng给gěi我wǒ一yī杯bēi水shuǐ。
Please give me a glass of water.
他tā给gěi我wǒ买mǎi了le礼lǐ物wù。
He bought me a gift.
