A while / in a moment with 一会儿

Structure Verb + 一会儿 · 一会儿 + Verb

一会儿 (yīhuìr) means "a little while". After the verb it marks the short duration of the action: 等一会儿 = "wait a moment". Before the verb (often with 就) it means "in a bit": 我一会儿就来 = "I’ll be right there". Very colloquial.

Examples

请qǐng等děng一yī会huì儿r。
Please wait a moment.
我wǒ一yī会huì儿r就jiù来lái。
I’ll be right there.
休xiū息xi一yī会huì儿r吧ba。
Take a short break.
