Through / by with 通过

Structure 通过 + means，+ result

通过 (tōngguò) introduces the MEANS or method by which something is achieved: "through, by means of". 通过努力，他实现了梦想 = "through hard work, he achieved his dream". It opens the clause. (As a verb, 通过 also means "to pass": 通过考试.)

Examples

通tōng过guò努nǔ力lì，他tā实shí现xiàn了le梦mèng想xiǎng。
Through hard work, he achieved his dream.
我wǒ们men通tōng过guò考kǎo试shì了le。
We passed the exam.
通tōng过guò这zhè件jiàn事shì，我wǒ学xué到dào了le很hěn多duō。
