The particle 吧 (suggestion and guess)

Structure Clause + 吧

吧 (ba) at the end of a sentence softens it. It has two uses: turning a sentence into a gentle suggestion or invitation (我们走吧 = "let’s go") and marking a guess you expect to be confirmed (你是老师吧？ = "you’re a teacher, right?"). It is not a neutral question like 吗; it carries intent.

Examples

我wǒ们men走zǒu吧ba。
Let’s go.
你nǐ休xiū息xi吧ba。
Get some rest.
你nǐ是shì老lǎo师shī吧ba？
You’re a teacher, right?
