太 … 了

Too / so… with 太…了

Structure 太 + Adjective + 了

太…了 (tài… le) wraps an adjective to mean "too" or, with a positive tone, "how…!". 太贵了 = "it’s too expensive"; 太好了 = "great!". The final 了 almost always goes with 太 in this pattern. To soften it: 不太 + adjective = "not very" (不太贵 = "not very expensive").

Examples

  • tàihǎole

    Great!

  • zhègetàiguìle

    This is too expensive.

  • jīntiāntàile

    It’s too hot today.

Levels are indicative: they follow the standard Chinese Grammar Wiki (AllSet Learning) progression, not an official HSK 3.0 mapping. We never assign levels by eye.
