The possessive particle 的

Structure Possessor + 的 + thing

的 (de) links a modifier to the noun it describes; the most typical case is possession: 我的书 ("my book"), 老师的车 ("the teacher’s car"). It always goes BETWEEN the owner and the thing. With very close relations (family, "my" group) it is usually dropped: 我妈妈, 我们老师.

Examples

这zhè是shì我wǒ的de手shǒu机jī。
This is my phone.
那nà是shì老lǎo师shī的de车chē。
That’s the teacher’s car.
我wǒ爸bà爸ba是shì医yī生shēng。
My dad is a doctor.
