没(有)

Negating with 没有 (not have, there isn’t)

Structure Subject + 没(有) + object

没有 (méiyǒu), or just 没, is the negative of 有: "not have" or "there isn’t". It also negates actions that did NOT happen (没去 = didn’t go), but that use comes up with the aspect particle 了. Remember the split: 不 negates habitual/future and adjectives; 没 negates "having" and things that didn’t happen.

Examples

  • méiyǒuqián

    I have no money.

  • méiyǒuchē

    He has no car.

  • jiāméiyǒugǒu

There’s no dog at my house.
