HSK 1 Basics
有
Having and existence with 有
Structure Subject + 有 + object
有 (yǒu) means both "to have" (possession) and "there is/are" (place + 有 + thing). It is a special verb because it is NEVER negated with 不: its negative is 没有 (or 没). Saying 不有 is a very common beginner mistake.
Examples
- 我有一个朋友。
I have a friend.
- 他有两本书。
He has two books.
- 家里有人吗?
Is anyone home?
