This and that: 这 and 那

Structure 这/那 (+ measure word) + noun

这 (zhè) is "this" (near) and 那 (nà) is "that" (far). On their own they work as the subject (这是…). Before a noun they need a measure word: 这个人 (this person), 那本书 (that book). They also give 这里/这儿 (here) and 那里/那儿 (there).

这zhè是shì什shén么me？
What is this?
那nà个ge人rén是shì谁shéi？
Who is that person?
我wǒ要yào这zhè个ge。
I want this one.
