Ordinals with 第

Structure 第 + number + measure word

For ordinals ("first, second…") you put 第 (dì) before the number: 第一 (1st), 第二 (2nd), 第三 (3rd). With a noun the measure word stays: 第一个 ("the first one"), 第二课 ("Lesson 2"). Here "two" is 二 (第二), not 两.

Examples

第dì一yī课kè很hěn简jiǎn单dān。
Lesson one is very easy.
他tā是shì第dì一yī名míng。
He’s in first place.
这zhè是shì我wǒ第dì一yī次cì坐zuò飞fēi机jī。
This is my first time flying.
