Compound directional complement
Structure Verb + 上/下/进/出/回/过 + 来/去
Two direction clues combine: first the path (上/下/进/出/回/过…) and then 来/去 depending on whether it’s toward or away from the speaker. 走进来 = "come in (walking, toward me)"; 拿出去 = "take out (carrying it away)"; 跑回来 = "run back here". A place-object goes between the verb and 来/去: 走进房间来.
Examples
- 他走进来了。
He walked in.
- 请把书拿出来。
Please take the book out.
- 他跑上楼去了。
He ran upstairs.
