Dare to with 敢

Structure Subject + (不) 敢 + Verb

敢 (gǎn) means "dare to": 我不敢一个人去 = "I don’t dare go alone". It goes before the verb. It’s very common in the negative (不敢) and in questions (敢不敢…?). It’s about the courage, or lack of it, to do something.

Examples

  • gǎngerén

    I don’t dare go alone.

  • gǎngǎnshìshi

    Do you dare to give it a try?

  • tiāntàihēigǎnchū

    It’s too dark; I don’t dare go out.
