HSK 6 Numbers & measure words
多达 / 高达 / 长达 …
Reach as many / as high / as long as (多达 / 高达 / 长达)
Structure 多达/高达/长达 + figure (number | value | duration)
多达 (duō dá), 高达 (gāo dá) and 长达 (cháng dá) are quantitative verbs typical of journalism that introduce a figure and stress how high it is: «to reach (the figure of)». The division of labour is clear: 多达 measures number or quantity (伤亡多达上千 = «casualties reach a thousand»), 高达 measures values or percentages (失业率高达两成 = «unemployment reaches twenty percent»), and 长达 measures time or length (战争长达八年 = «a war lasting eight years»). The pattern is verb + exact figure, as opposed to the approximators 近 / 约 (HSK 5), which give an estimated, not a categorical, figure.
