HSK 2 Connectors & compound sentences

A 还是 B

Or in questions with 还是

Structure A + 还是 + B?

To ask "A or B?" (choosing between two) you use 还是 (háishi): 你喝茶还是咖啡? It’s the "or" used ONLY in choice questions. In statements, "or" is 或者 (another point). Don’t add 吗 to these questions: 还是 already marks them.

Examples

  • cháháishifēi

Do you want tea or coffee?

  • háishi

    Are you going or not?

  • jīntiānzǒuháishimíngtiānzǒu

Do we leave today or tomorrow?

Levels are indicative: they follow the standard Chinese Grammar Wiki (AllSet Learning) progression, not an official HSK 3.0 mapping. We never assign levels by eye.
