HSK 2 Verbal aspect (了 · 过 · 着 · 在)

(要) … 了

About to with 要…了

Structure 要 / 快(要) + Verb + 了

To announce that something will happen soon you use 要 + verb + 了 (or 快要…了, 快…了): 火车要开了 = "the train is about to leave". The final 了 is essential: it marks the imminent change. 快(要)…了 stresses even more that it’s imminent.

Examples

  • kuàixiàle

    It’s about to rain.

  • menkuàidàole

    We’re almost there.

Levels are indicative: they follow the standard Chinese Grammar Wiki (AllSet Learning) progression, not an official HSK 3.0 mapping. We never assign levels by eye.
