About to with 要…了
Structure 要 / 快(要) + Verb + 了
To announce that something will happen soon you use 要 + verb + 了 (or 快要…了, 快…了): 火车要开了 = "the train is about to leave". The final 了 is essential: it marks the imminent change. 快(要)…了 stresses even more that it’s imminent.
Examples
- 火车要开了。
The train is about to leave.
- 快下雨了。
It’s about to rain.
- 我们快到了。
We’re almost there.
