HSK 2 Verbal aspect (了 · 过 · 着 · 在)

(正)在 + 动词

Be doing with 在 / 正在

Structure (正)在 + Verb (+ 呢)

To say an action is IN PROGRESS you put 在 (or 正在, more emphatic) BEFORE the verb: 我在吃饭 = "I’m eating". It is often closed with 呢. Don’t confuse it with the 在 of location (我在家): here 在 comes before a VERB, not a place. Negate with 没(有): 我没在睡觉.

Examples

  • zàichīfàn

    I’m eating.

  • zhèngzàidiànhuà

    He’s on the phone.

  • háizimenzàishuìjiàone

    The kids are sleeping.

Levels are indicative: they follow the standard Chinese Grammar Wiki (AllSet Learning) progression, not an official HSK 3.0 mapping. We never assign levels by eye.
