HSK 2 Connectors & compound sentences

因为 … 所以 …

Because… so… (因为…所以…)

Structure 因为 + cause,所以 + consequence

Chinese marks cause and effect with a pair: 因为 (because) opens the reason and 所以 (so) opens the result. 因为下雨,所以我们不去了. Unlike English, using BOTH at once is normal. One can be dropped if the meaning is clear.

Examples

  • yīnwèixiàsuǒmenle

Because it’s raining, we’re not going.

  • yīnwèimángsuǒméilái

He didn’t come because he was busy.

  • yīnwèitàiguìleméimǎi

I didn’t buy it because it was too expensive.

Levels are indicative: they follow the standard Chinese Grammar Wiki (AllSet Learning) progression, not an official HSK 3.0 mapping. We never assign levels by eye.
