Because… so… (因为…所以…)

Structure 因为 + cause，所以 + consequence

Chinese marks cause and effect with a pair: 因为 (because) opens the reason and 所以 (so) opens the result. 因为下雨，所以我们不去了. Unlike English, using BOTH at once is normal. One can be dropped if the meaning is clear.

Examples

因yīn为wèi下xià雨yǔ，所suǒ以yǐ我wǒ们men不bù去qù了le。
Because it’s raining, we’re not going.
他tā因yīn为wèi忙máng，所suǒ以yǐ没méi来lái。
He didn’t come because he was busy.
因yīn为wèi太tài贵guì了le，我wǒ没méi买mǎi。
I didn’t buy it because it was too expensive.
