Only with 只

Structure 只 + Verb

只 (zhǐ) means "only / just" and limits what comes after it. It goes before the verb: 我只有十块钱 = "I only have ten yuan"; 他只想休息 = "he just wants to rest". Mind the placement: it limits exactly what follows it.

Examples

我wǒ只zhǐ有yǒu十shí块kuài钱qián。
I only have ten yuan.
他tā只zhǐ想xiǎng休xiū息xi。
He just wants to rest.
我wǒ只zhǐ去qù过guò一yī次cì。
I’ve only been once.
