HSK 3 Verbal aspect (了 · 过 · 着 · 在)
动词 + 着
Ongoing state with 着
Structure Verb + 着
着 (zhe) after the verb marks a state that PERSISTS: 门开着 = "the door is (standing) open". While 在 + verb is the action in progress, 着 is the resulting situation. It also links two simultaneous actions: 他站着说话 = "he talks standing up" (V1着 + V2 = doing V2 while in the state of V1).
Examples
- 他站着说话。
He talks standing up.
- 门开着呢。
The door is open.
- 她笑着对我说。
She said to me with a smile.
