Structure 毕竟 + underlying reason

毕竟 (bìjìng) points to an underlying fact that explains everything: "after all, when it comes down to it". 他毕竟还是个孩子 = "he’s a child, after all" (don’t expect more). It justifies or qualifies by appealing to the essence of the matter.

Examples

他tā毕bì竟jìng还hái是shi个ge孩hái子zi。
He’s a child, after all.
毕bì竟jìng是shì第dì一yī次cì，别bié太tài紧jǐn张zhāng。
It’s your first time, after all—don’t be so nervous.
这zhè里lǐ毕bì竟jìng是shì大dà城chéng市shì。
