Despite with 尽管…还是…

Structure 尽管 + fact，还是 / 但是 + result

尽管…还是… (jǐnguǎn… háishi…) marks a concession about a REAL fact: "despite the fact that…, still…". 尽管很累，他还是坚持工作 = "even though he’s tired, he keeps working". Very close to 虽然…但是…, with a slightly more emphatic nuance. (Note: 尽管 on its own means "go right ahead".)

Examples

尽jǐn管guǎn很hěn累lèi，他tā还hái是shi坚jiān持chí工gōng作zuò。
Despite being tired, he keeps working.
尽jǐn管guǎn下xià着zhe雨yǔ，他tā们men还hái是shi来lái了le。
Despite the rain, they still came.
尽jǐn管guǎn很hěn贵guì，我wǒ还hái是shi买mǎi了le。
Even though it was expensive, I still bought it.
