Regard / treat… as… (把…当作…)

Structure 把 + A + 当作 + B (treat A as B)

把…当作… (bǎ… dàngzuò…) uses the 把 structure to say that A is treated or regarded as B: 他把这里当作自己的家 = "he treats this place as his own home". 当作 (also 当成) means "take as, regard as". 当 here reads dàng (fourth tone). Very useful for how we see or treat something.

Examples

他tā把bǎ这zhè里lǐ当dàng作zuò自zì己jǐ的de家jiā。
He treats this place as his own home.
别bié把bǎ我wǒ的de话huà当dàng作zuò耳ěr边biān风fēng。
Don’t treat what I say as if it were just wind (don’t ignore me).
我wǒ们men把bǎ他tā当dàng作zuò自zì己jǐ人rén。
We regard him as one of us.
