Structure 进行 + two-syllable verbal noun (讨论, 研究…)

进行 (jìnxíng) is a formal "support" verb: it introduces a serious activity expressed by a two-syllable verb acting as its object. 我们对这个问题进行了讨论 = "we discussed this issue" (literally "carried out a discussion"). It’s NOT used with everyday actions: you say 吃饭, not 进行吃饭. Typical of reports, meetings and news.

Examples

会huì议yì正zhèng在zài进jìn行xíng。
The meeting is under way.
我wǒ们men对duì这zhè个ge问wèn题tí进jìn行xíng了le讨tǎo论lùn。
We held a discussion on this issue.
比bǐ赛sài正zhèng在zài顺shùn利lì进jìn行xíng。
