HSK 5 Adverbs

明明

Clearly / obviously (yet…) (明明)

Structure 明明 + obvious fact(,却 + contradiction)

明明 (míngmíng) asserts that something is obvious, almost always to contrast it with something that contradicts it: "clearly…, yet…". 你明明知道,为什么不说? = "you clearly know, so why don’t you say it?". 他明明在家,却不开门 = "he’s obviously home, yet won’t open the door". It’s usually followed by 却/还/可 to mark the contradiction.
