Structure Verb + 下来

下来 (xiàlái) after a verb has, beyond the physical "down", several handy figurative senses: (1) something STOPPING or calming: 请把车停下来 = "stop the car"; 静下来 = "calm down". (2) something being FIXED or recorded: 请把这些话记下来 = "write down what was said". (3) a gradual change settling in: 天慢慢黑下来了 = "it slowly grew dark".

Examples

请qǐng把bǎ车chē停tíng下xià来lái。
Please stop the car.
天tiān慢màn慢màn黑hēi下xià来lái了le。
It slowly grew dark.
请qǐng把bǎ这zhè些xiē话huà记jì下xià来lái。
Please write all this down.
