HSK 6 Comparison

不亚于 …

Not inferior to / on par with (不亚于)

Structure A + 不亚于 + B

不亚于 (bù yà yú) states that something is by no means inferior to another, i.e. it matches or even surpasses it, especially in QUALITY, merit or standing: 他的水平不亚于专业选手 = "his level is fully on par with a professional's". It belongs to written register and carries implicit praise. Take care not to confuse it with 不下于 (bù xià yú), which stresses a numerical or quantitative floor ("no less than"). Here 亚 means "inferior, second", so 不亚于 = "to come second to no one in".
