HSK 6 Numbers & measure words
… 余 / 有余
And more / odd (余/有余)
Structure number + 余 + measure word ·(or)quantity + 有余
余 (yú) is inserted BETWEEN the number and the measure word to mean "-odd", "and more": 三十余人 = "thirty-odd people", 百余年 = "a hundred-odd years". It is the cultured stand-in for colloquial 多 (三十多人), written register and typical of high round figures (tens, hundreds, thousands). 有余, placed after, means "to spare", "more than enough": 绰绰有余 = "more than ample", 收入丰盈,养家有余 = "ample income, enough to support the family and then some". Genuine quantification, absent from HSK 1-5.
