Structure 众所周知，+ widely accepted statement

众所周知 (zhòng suǒ zhōu zhī, lit. «what is known all around to everyone») is a four-syllable formula that opens a sentence by presenting what follows as a commonly accepted fact; it usually comes first, set off by a comma. It keeps the literary relative reading of 所 (suǒ). Its cousin 不言而喻 (bù yán ér yù, «it goes without saying») uses 而 to link «without saying it → it is understood»: rather than opening a statement, it labels something so obvious it needs no explaining.

Examples

众zhòng所suǒ周zhōu知zhī，吸xī烟yān有yǒu害hài健jiàn康kāng。
As everyone knows, smoking is harmful to health.
众zhòng所suǒ周zhōu知zhī，水shuǐ由yóu氢qīng和hé氧yǎng组zǔ成chéng。
As is well known, water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen.
他tā的de贡gòng献xiàn之zhī大dà，不bù言yán而ér喻yù。
The scale of his contribution goes without saying.
众zhòng所suǒ周zhōu知zhī，地dì球qiú绕rào着zhe太tài阳yáng转zhuàn。
