On one hand… on the other… (一方面…一方面…)

Structure 一方面 + A，一方面（另一方面）+ B

一方面…一方面… (yīfāngmiàn… yīfāngmiàn…) presents two sides or two reasons of the same matter: "on one hand…, on the other…". 一方面要工作，一方面要学习 = "on one hand I have to work, on the other I have to study". The second part is often 另一方面 ("on the other hand"). It balances two aspects.

Examples

一yī方fāng面miàn要yào工gōng作zuò，一yī方fāng面miàn要yào学xué习xí。
On one hand I must work, on the other I must study.
学xué习xí一yī方fāng面miàn靠kào老lǎo师shī，一yī方fāng面miàn靠kào自zì己jǐ。
Learning depends partly on the teacher and partly on yourself.
他tā一yī方fāng面miàn想xiǎng去qù，一yī方fāng面miàn又yòu有yǒu点diǎn儿r怕pà。
On one hand he wants to go, on the other he’s a bit afraid.
