Structure 据 + source，information （据说 + information）

据 (jù) introduces the SOURCE of information, in a formal register: "according to…". It appears mostly in fixed phrases: 据说 = "it is said, they say"; 据报道 = "it is reported"; 据我所知 = "as far as I know". 据说他要出国了 = "they say he’s going abroad". Typical of news and written language; in casual speech 听说 is used.

Examples

据jù说shuō他tā要yào出chū国guó了le。
They say he’s going abroad.
据jù天tiān气qì预yù报bào，明míng天tiān有yǒu雨yǔ。
According to the forecast, it’ll rain tomorrow.
据jù我wǒ所suǒ知zhī，他tā还hái没méi结jié婚hūn。
As far as I know, he isn’t married yet.
