To make (someone feel) — 令

Structure 令 + person + emotion/reaction

令 (lìng) is the formal version of 让/使 in its causative sense: "to make someone feel or be…". The pattern 令人 + emotion is very common: 这个消息令人高兴 = "the news is delightful (makes one glad)"; 令人失望 = "disappointing"; 令人感动 = "moving". It’s formal/written; in everyday speech 让 is preferred.

Examples

这zhè个ge消xiāo息xi令lìng人rén高gāo兴xìng。
The news is delightful.
他tā的de表biǎo现xiàn令lìng大dà家jiā失shī望wàng。
His performance disappointed everyone.
这zhè部bù电diàn影yǐng令lìng人rén感gǎn动dòng。
This film is moving.
