难免
Hard to avoid / bound to (难免)
Structure 难免 + (会) + undesirable situation
难免 (nánmiǎn, "hard to avoid") says something is almost inevitable, usually something undesirable: 第一次做饭,难免会出错 = "the first time you cook, mistakes are bound to happen". It often takes 会 before the verb. It’s used to excuse or normalize a slip: "that was to be expected".
Examples
- 第一次做饭,难免会出错。
The first time you cook, mistakes are bound to happen.
- 刚来的时候,难免想家。
When you’ve just arrived, it’s natural to feel homesick.
- 人多的地方,难免有点乱。
Where there are lots of people, it’s bound to be a bit chaotic.
