舍不得

To be reluctant to part with (舍不得)

Structure 舍不得 + verb/object (↔ 舍得)

舍不得 (shěbude) expresses that it’s hard for you to leave, spend or part with something or someone out of affection or attachment: 我舍不得离开这里 = "I can’t bear to leave this place"; 妈妈舍不得花钱 = "Mom hates to spend money". Its opposite is 舍得 ("to be willing to part with"). It’s very emotional and everyday.

Examples

  • shědekāizhè

    I can’t bear to leave this place.

  • zhèjiànfutàiguìshědemǎi

    The clothes are so expensive she can’t bring herself to buy them.

  • mashědehuāqián

    Mom hates to spend money.
