To be reluctant to part with (舍不得)

Structure 舍不得 + verb/object （↔ 舍得）

舍不得 (shěbude) expresses that it’s hard for you to leave, spend or part with something or someone out of affection or attachment: 我舍不得离开这里 = "I can’t bear to leave this place"; 妈妈舍不得花钱 = "Mom hates to spend money". Its opposite is 舍得 ("to be willing to part with"). It’s very emotional and everyday.

Examples

我wǒ舍shě不bù得de离lí开kāi这zhè里lǐ。
I can’t bear to leave this place.
这zhè件jiàn衣yī服fu太tài贵guì，她tā舍shě不bù得de买mǎi。
The clothes are so expensive she can’t bring herself to buy them.
妈mā妈ma舍shě不bù得de花huā钱qián。
Mom hates to spend money.
