Under / with the help of (在…下)

Structure 在 + circumstance/help + 下，result

在…下 (zài… xià) is NOT a physical "under" but the circumstance or support under which something happens: "with the help of…, under these conditions…". 在老师的帮助下，我进步很快 = "with the teacher’s help, I progressed fast". Between 在 and 下 there’s usually a two-syllable-or-longer phrase (帮助, 努力, 情况, 领导…).

Examples

在zài老lǎo师shī的de帮bāng助zhù下xià，我wǒ进jìn步bù很hěn快kuài。
With the teacher’s help, I made fast progress.
在zài大dà家jiā的de努nǔ力lì下xià，问wèn题tí解jiě决jué了le。
Through everyone’s efforts, the problem was solved.
在zài这zhè种zhǒng情qíng况kuàng下xià，最zuì好hǎo别bié出chū门mén。
Under these circumstances, it’s best not to go out.
