HSK 6 Verb usage

毫无

Utterly without (毫无)

Structure 毫无 + abstract noun

毫无 (háo wú) means "to have not the slightest", "to be utterly without". Unlike a plain degree adverb, it GOVERNS a nominal object: 毫 ("a hair's breadth, the least bit") + 无 ("there is not") + an abstract noun, almost always disyllabic (道理, 察觉, 意义, 兴趣, 准备). It is the categorical, written equivalent of 没有一点 / 一点也没有, at home in journalism and educated prose. It does not take concrete countable nouns: you say 毫无道理, not 毫无书.
