HSK 6 Pronouns & determiners
一切
All / everything (一切)
Structure 一切 (+ noun) = all / everything; as subject or object
一切 (yī qiè) is the abstract universal quantifier: "all, the whole, everything". Unlike 所有 (HSK 4), which counts concrete things and usually takes 的 ("all the books" = 所有的书), 一切 is more total and abstract, covering what isn't itemised: life, efforts, hardships, whatever it may be. It is also more emphatic and literary than colloquial 都. It often combines with 都 for emphasis: 一切都….
